Best email MCP servers for Claude and ChatGPT (November 2026)

5 min readBy Fezola

Short answer: there is no single best email MCP server, only the best one for your situation. For one Gmail account, the built-in connector of Claude or ChatGPT is enough. To search several mailboxes at once, or a mailbox that is not Gmail, you need a multi-account server: self-hosted if you want full control, hosted if you want it to work from every device. This page compares the main options as of November 2026, and says where Fezola, which we build, is not the right choice.

How we compared

Every fact below comes from the project's own page, checked on 8 November 2026, with the link next to it. When a page does not say, we write "not stated" instead of guessing. Features and prices change quickly: check the source before you decide.

We compare on five questions that matter in practice:

  1. Which mailboxes does it reach? Gmail only, or any IMAP mailbox?
  2. Several accounts at once? In the same search, with the account named in each result?
  3. Can it send? Sending is irreversible, so it matters.
  4. Where does it run? Your computer or someone else's server?
  5. What does it cost?

The comparison

Option Mailboxes Several accounts Sends or drafts Where it runs Public price
Built-in connectors (Gmail in Claude, Gmail, Outlook and iCloud in ChatGPT) The provider's own mail Rolling out, check the current docs Depends on the connector Hosted by the assistant's vendor Included in your plan
nikolausm/imap-mcp-server IMAP and SMTP, presets for about 14 providers Yes Sends, saves drafts; optional read-only mode Your computer (npx or clone) Free, MIT license
ai-zerolab/mcp-email-server IMAP and SMTP Yes Reads and sends Your computer (uvx or Docker) Free, BSD-3-Clause license
Composio (Gmail toolkit) Gmail (61 tools) Yes, accounts can be named Sends immediately, also drafts and replies Hosted by Composio Free Hobby plan; paid price not stated
Nango Gmail, and a catalog of 1,000+ APIs Yes, up to 10 Gmail accounts on free Not stated Nango cloud Free tier; paid price not stated
alfred_ Gmail, Outlook, iCloud, Yahoo, AOL, any IMAP Yes, up to six Sends after your approval (off by default); drafting not stated Remote endpoint From $29.99 per month, 7-day trial
Provider-made servers: Fastmail, Zoho Mail That provider's mailbox only Zoho: one server per account; Fastmail: not in Claude, per Fastmail Fastmail: optional Send level; Zoho: sending listed among the tools Hosted by the provider Zoho: free; Fastmail: not stated
Fezola Gmail, iCloud, Yahoo, OVH, IONOS, Gandi, any IMAP; Google Chat and Telegram, read-only Yes, one search, each result names its account Drafts only by default Hosted by Fezola Free for 2 sources; Pro $9 per month

Some mail providers now publish their own MCP server. Fastmail launched one in April 2026 and Zoho has one too: if that provider is your only mailbox, it is a strong choice. See Fastmail in Claude and ChatGPT and Zoho Mail in Claude and ChatGPT for the details.

Two notes on reading this table. First, the built-in row is deliberately vague: the vendors change what their connectors do often, and Anthropic has been rolling out support for several Google accounts in Claude's Gmail connector, so a statement like "it only sees one account" would be out of date. Second, a self-hosted server and a hosted one are not competitors so much as different trade-offs, which the next section explains.

Which one should you pick?

You have one Gmail account

Use the built-in connector. It is free, supported by the assistant's vendor and needs no third party. An extra server only adds something when you reach the limits of the built-in one.

You want full control and are comfortable in a terminal

Run a self-hosted server such as nikolausm/imap-mcp-server or ai-zerolab/mcp-email-server. Your credentials stay on your machine and there is no company between you and your mailbox. The price is yours to pay in time: you install, update and secure it, it runs only where you installed it, and it cannot be added to the web version of Claude or ChatGPT, which need a server reachable on the internet. Note that both servers above can send email, so look at their read-only or approval options before you give an assistant access.

You want several providers in one search, from any device

Use a hosted multi-account server. Composio and Nango are developer platforms with many integrations, which suits a team building agents. alfred_ is a personal assistant product with a per-month price. Fezola is built for one job: connect your mailboxes (Gmail, iCloud, Yahoo, OVH, IONOS, Gandi or any IMAP mailbox) plus Google Chat and Telegram to Claude and ChatGPT with a single URL. What is an email MCP server explains the idea in more detail.

Where Fezola is not the right choice

  • If you only use Gmail and one account is enough, you do not need it.
  • If you want the assistant to send mail on its own, Fezola will not do that by default: it saves drafts and you send them yourself.
  • Outlook and Hotmail personal mailboxes are not supported at the moment.
  • If your policy forbids any third party from touching your mail, a self-hosted server is the right answer.

What Fezola does, verified in the code

Everything below is read from Fezola's own source code, not from marketing copy.

  • One search across all mailboxes. search_messages queries one mailbox, or all of them at once when you give no account. Every result carries its account (accountLabel, accountEmail), so you know where each message is.
  • Drafts, not sends. reply_draft, create_draft and forward_draft save a draft in the mailbox that received the message, with that mailbox's address as the sender. The send_message tool exists but is disabled by default on the server (MAIL_SEND_ENABLED).
  • Attachments. get_attachment reads PDF, Word, text and image files.
  • Google Chat and Telegram, read-only. Fezola reads them and cannot post.
  • Several sources. The free plan connects 2 sources, Pro up to 20.
  • Control. list_connected_assistants and revoke_assistant show which assistants have access and cut it.

Try it in five minutes

  1. Create a free Fezola account and add a mailbox in Sources.
  2. In Claude, open Customize, Connectors, + Add, Add custom connector, and paste https://api.fezola.com/mcp. In ChatGPT (paid plans), turn on Developer mode in Settings, Apps & Connectors, Advanced settings, then create a connector with the same URL.
  3. Approve the access, then ask: "What needs an answer today in all my mailboxes?"

Questions

What is the best email MCP server for Claude or ChatGPT?

It depends on what you need. One Gmail account: the built-in connector is enough. Several mailboxes or providers in one search: a hosted multi-account server. Full control and no third party: a self-hosted server you run yourself. The table above compares them.

Can an email MCP server send emails for me?

Some can, some cannot. Several open-source servers and hosted services send immediately, some only after an approval step. Fezola saves drafts only by default: you review and send them from your own mail app.

Do I need a hosted or a self-hosted email MCP server?

Self-hosted servers run on your own computer: nothing to trust but yourself, but you install and update them, and they only work where they run. Hosted servers work from any device and from the web apps of Claude and ChatGPT, at the price of trusting a provider with access to your mail.

Is it safe to give an AI access to my email?

It can be, if you check three things: whether the server can send, how credentials are stored, and whether you can revoke access in one click. See the guide on whether it is safe to connect your email to an AI.

Does Fezola cost anything?

Fezola is free for 2 sources. Pro connects up to 20 sources for $9 per month or $90 per year, with a 7-day free trial.
